Eating to Live
Do you eat to live? Or do you live to eat?
Through the beneficial karma we have bound through positive actions of the past, we have been awarded this rare human birth.
Each day, we wake up and go through the motions of consumption and creation, over and over again, until we rest our head at bed time.
Through our daily activity, food plays a large part. Some eat because they enjoy the taste. Some eat to spend time and strengthen the bond with family and friends around the dinner table. Some eat because it’s a distraction from their mundane life.
Eating is the activity that taps into ALL the senses. The way your meal is presented, the way it smells, the crunchy or smooth texture that you can feel in your hands and mouth as well as hear when biting into it, and of course the sweet, sour, and bitter tastes.
If food gives so much sensual pleasure, no wonder it plays such an important role in our day to day lives.
So do you eat for the sake of eating? Do you eat as a social activity to be with family and friends? Do you eat to get comfort from the food? Do you eat to shift your mind away from your day-to-day worries?
Or do you eat to nourish your body so that you can accomplish the goals of your life?
When you have a goal, a sole purpose for life, perhaps even a soul purpose, then you ready your mind and control your desires so that what you consume supports your main goal.
Why do you eat, and how are your eating habits supporting your life?
